PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Thiopental Sodium Injection is a fast-acting barbiturate used primarily for the induction of general anesthesia.

With ultra-short onset and brief duration of action, it provides rapid unconsciousness, making it a preferred choice for emergency anesthesia induction, procedural sedation, and seizure control in status epilepticus.

As a lipid-soluble barbiturate, Thiopental acts on GABA-A receptors to produce CNS depression. It is not suitable for maintenance anesthesia due to cumulative effects but remains highly effective for short-term procedures and in critical care settings.

Side Effects:

• COMMON:
  • Transient hypotension
  • Apnea (short-term)
  • Injection site irritation or thrombophlebitis
  • Somnolence or residual drowsiness
• SERIOUS (RARE):
  • Respiratory depression
  • Laryngospasm or bronchospasm
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylaxis)
  • Tissue necrosis on extravasation
• PRECAUTIONS:
  • For administration by experienced professionals only

  • Requires ready access to resuscitation equipment and ventilatory support
