Cytarabine is a pyrimidine nucleoside analog used primarily in the treatment of hematologic malignancies. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of DNA synthesis during the S-phase of the cell cycle, making it highly effective in rapidly proliferating cancer cells.

- Pulmonary edema
- Gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding
- Cytarabine syndrome (fever, malaise, muscle pain)
- PRECAUTIONS:
- Requires close hematologic monitoring during treatment
- Dose adjustment in hepatic and renal impairment
- Monitor neurological status when using high-dose regimens
- Adequate hydration and supportive care are essential during therapy
- Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed
