PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

 

Chloroquine Phosphate Injection 40 MG/ML is a sterile, injectable formulation used in the treatment and management of malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae, and chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum.

It is particularly useful in cases of severe malaria or when oral administration is not feasible. Apart from its antimalarial properties, chloroquine phosphate is also indicated in certain autoimmune and inflammatory conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus.

This product is manufactured under GMP-compliant facilities, ensuring global quality standards and suitability for both institutional and public health supply programs.   • Route of Administration: Intramuscular (IM) or Intravenous (IV) slow infusion (with dilution, under medical supervision) after appropriate reconstitution or as per clinical indication and severity. Reconstituted as per protocol for injection in country of use. To be administered under strict supervision of a qualified doctor or as per physician’s discretion or decision only.

Therapeutic Indications:

  • Treatment of malaria caused by vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae, and chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum
  • Severe malaria where oral administration is impractical
  • Off-label: management of autoimmune diseases (as per physician’s discretion)

Side Effects:

  • COMMON:
    • Nausea, vomiting
    • Blurred vision
    • Dizziness
    • Injection site pain or inflammation
  • SERIOUS (RARE):
    • Retinopathy or visual field defects (with prolonged use)
    • Cardiomyopathy or QT prolongation
    • Severe hypotension (with rapid IV administration)
    • Blood dyscrasias (rare but possible)
  • PRECAUTIONS:
    • Avoid use in patients with known retinal disorders
    • Caution in individuals with hepatic or renal impairment
    • ECG monitoring advised during IV infusion due to cardiac risks
    • Should not be co-administered with other QT-prolonging agents
